In General

For rail passenger service, Chicago is sorta like the center of the universe.  There may be more trains running on the NorthEast Corridor, but the destinations are always the same.  From Chicago, you can go almost anywhere in the United States.  Lines radiate out from Chicago in all directions.

This page is a gateway to discovering where those trains go.

Many of the trains Amtrak has in service today, use names with a rich history, such as the City of New Orleans, the Broadway Limited, or the Southwest Chief.  Histories will be covered on the individual pages.

Each route is covered on it's own page, otherwise, if they were all on this one page, it would probably never load in its entirety :-)

     Hiawatha Service
     California Zephyr
     Southwest Chief
     Carl Sandburg
     Illinois Zephyr
     Lincoln Service
     Texas Eagle
     The City of New Orleans
     Saluki & Illini
     Cardinal
     Hoosier State
     Capitol Limited
     Lake Shore Limited
     Pere Marquette
     Wolverine Service
     Blue Water Service

The table below shows you the Amtrak trains currently serving Chicago.  Just for reference, I added the distance and time from Chicago to reach the final destinations of  the name trains, and where two sets of numbers are provided, it is to the two cities highlighted in Bold.

The Lake Shore Limited splits into two trains at Albany, with one going to New York City down the beautiful Hudson River, and the other heads over to Boston.

In case you're wondering, the table above was done in Microsoft's Excel, and then I used Snag-It to capture the table and add a border.

Pictures and additional information is always needed if anyone feels inclined to take 'em, send 'em, and share 'em, or if you have something to add or correct.... credit is always given! Contact info is here
